Hi, My pony has got a hot swollen tail. She is showing signs of sensitivity, but not pain. It feel hot to touch and is swollen from the base of the tail to the tip of the bone. There is no sign of trauma, but she isn't keen to lift it too high. She hasn't been rubbing it, nor has she knocked it to my knowledge. Should I call a vet? Could this be symptomatic of something else?

Hi Keep an eye on it and if it doesn't improve then get it investigated. It's probably the result of a kick. Try Arnica and see if that helps. Best wishes HorseVet

Hi thanks for that. I found out what the problem was...fillet string on a rug...attachments were too high so some homemade alterations are on going. She was also turned out on her own at the time. She's now out on winter pasture and has got 3 playmates, I think she thinks its all a dream.
