READ: THIS IS ALSO POSTED IN EQUINE NUTRITION TO AVOID ANY CONFUSION. Posting this thread here because i was getting no reaction in the other group and i am really interested to hear what people think :)... Now i know some people on here like it and use it but i am not a fan, i think your horse knows when it needs water and will drink off his or her own accord, just wanted everyone elses opinion. Also if a horse drinks too much water too fast it can in effect drown itself just like all animals can and horses seem to guzzle down a full bucket of water with horse quencher in it, isn't this a bit dangerous? Grenville drinks little and often and takes around 5 big gulps of water after a ride and will have a bit more in about 15 minutes, this to me seems healthier and safer than him gulping down a full bucket or even half a bucket after riding! I think the only reason a horse won't drink regular clean water would be it doesn't need it... Other opinions?

Just found this video from the website, the way the horse dives in and submerges its entire nose makes me worry lol maybe i am looking into it too much, i don't know :\

I know my horses won't always drink when we go away to a show. The water has a different taste and smell. I've had some very fussy horses who have tucked up at the flanks and dehydrated themselves because the water was much harder (a lot of calcium) then ours at home. I would love to get horse quencher but haven't been able to get it into Australia.

I thought it would be useful for horses travelling on planes but that was the only reason i would think a horse would need to be urged to drink if it was thirsty, when we go to a show with grenville or the beach we fill big bottles of water to take with us and if he is thirsty he will drink it, its good to hear other thoughts on it though :) i'm still not sure about how much it makes them drink or how quick they drink it

No Phil is super fussy, will turn off food and water when we travel. So frustrating!! If we could take water with us that would be great but the shows we travel to are at the least an hour away and often more like 3-6. And we stay there for a three days so carting that much water just won't work. Your lucky if grenny isn't fussy :) I gues if your worried you could always make a big bucket of it and pour out a little into another smaller bucket at a time

Yeah see we don't go to big shows just little local ones i can ride to cos grenville is a fussy traveler lol will only travel in wagons where he can face sideways so we rarely leave town haha, i still don't think i would give a horse horse quencher unless in the event of travelling on a plane or like phil if i had a horse that just refused to drink but even then i would do it like you said i would be super paranoid and would give them a tiny bit at a time so they couldn't submerge their nose :P i'm probably looking into it more than i need to lol
