We are helping a neighbor to start a eight year old (accidentally breed at 6) brood mare under saddle. This horse is very soft on the ground, has learned to long line then drive in a few tries. she moves beautiful on the lounge line. She can be a little spooky but never naughty. She excepts the saddle and will let a rider walk mounted on her slowly, then will buck violently at the trot. When ridden bareback she will allow the rider to mount with ease...at the first step she begins to buck violently until the rider dismounts, each time after dismounting the rider she looks for attention from them. Normally I would expect the horse to run off bucking with pride. She appears to be a classic case of a horse in pain under saddle. We thought maybe Kissing Spine but with out x-rays we can't confirm. We are also concerned that what ever it is it may be hereditary. Does anyone have any suggestions?
