My first riding instructor told me to sing 'hickory dickory dock' (that nursury rhyme about the mouse:]) when I'm trotting to keep my rising steady. this must have been about 7 or 8 years ago now and I still do it!-admitadly in my head most of the time but still :L
It's brilliant for beginers, nervous riders and riders on young horses.
It keeps beginers and nervous riders breathing and riding steadily! And riders with young horses if you sing it outloud the horse will hear it and subcontiously trot to the pace of the song (this is also works with ipods as long as you play the song outloud!)
It works with any song really, but this nursary rhyme works well for younger riders and riders starting out.
In Canter with my youngster I play foster the people 'Pumped up kicks' not sure how but it works!!!
GoodLuck! :) x |

I sing when I ride sensitive horses. On an old mare that we had i usually sang the little song "Little bunny Froo Froo hopping in the forest scoopin up the feild mice and bopping them on the head! etc." lol but now when I ride sensitive horses i just sing whatever song is in my head. Last time it was Up Up and Away by Lil Wayne xD |

Sort of, you will all think I'm mad. when my boy feels a little sharp, I sing/chant "just keep swimming, just keep swimming..." like Dori from Finding Nemo. Sounds weird, but it works!

I sing all the time when I'm riding/driving! I usually start off singing some random tune that pops into my head - the theme to The Littlest Hobo for example, and then it ends up my making up lyrics that feature my boys, Jonesy, Fraggle & Sprocket (admittedly the latter are more difficult to fit into song format...lol) I prob look/sound as mad as a sack of badgers, but the boys don't seem to mind, and that's all that matters :) |

Yes I do when I'm hacking alone especially if my horse is uptight. I sing anything that comes into my head, usually something very silly with the addition of my own lyrics. The other day I took Willow for a solo hack up to the woods and she's got really nervous about going there because one day recently they started paintballing nearby, shooting and shouting which really freaked her out-so I sang 'When you go into the woods today...' lol. My mother in law said singing to one of their highly strung jig jogging point 2 pointers really helped to chill the mare out when she rode her :) |

I sing when I am out on my own or when I feel myself tensing up, my song of choice is Mr Blue Sky ( ELO) but sometimes a song will just pop into my head so I go with that .... Unless it has explicit lyrics lol
I would love a compilation album to download for horse riders to listen to, especially when I am struggling with transitions, to help keep my rhythm! Lol :) |

I listen to music when I'm riding and sometimes sing just for the fun of it! Sometimes I'll play a song on my ipod and walk-trot-canter to the music, it's quite fun and you shuold try it sometime! |
