Even though the horrors of the First World War show the worst of man they also reveal the best. Stories of courage have always gripped and inspired me since I was a child and as someone who loves horses, accounts of the bond between a soldier and his horse cut right to my heart. I've just read another moving story in the link below which is from The Blue Cross First World War Archive which have just been opened to coincide with the film. 'The British Army used 1,183,228 horses during the conflict of which 484,000 were killed. The Blue Cross treated over 50,000 injured horses in the field and collected donations from animal lovers across the world to fund horse hospitals, ambulances and veterinary supplies. Steve Goody, the charity’s director of external affairs, said: “We are immensely proud of The Blue Cross’s history helping the brave animals of war. "As a tribute to all the real-life war horses, we decided to open up our archives to share some of the amazing stories of these extraordinary animals, as well as the people who went beyond the call of duty to help them.” I wondered if anyone had a relative who had been involved with the horses in WW1?
