Hello, yesterday while my horse was standing in his stable, I noticed that his hind left leg was in a very odd position. It had gotten quite twisted inwards but then he settled it back but was still not leaning on it and was pointing it inwards. He stretched his neck and bared his teeth (I can't remember the actual term) to show that he was in pain, so I knew something was wrong. I felt his leg (and luckily he didn't react, so it can't have hurt too much on the outside) and noticed that it was very warm from his gaskin to his inner hock. I put a cold wet towl around the warm spots and applied pressure to cool it down. I THINK he has pulled a muscle, could anyone tell me if im correct? What should I do from here?

Hi, Id definately get him checked by someone who knows what their looking at accross the whole of the body. You dont know if its just a muscle or he could of done something to effect his pelvis/ lumbar region. without seeing him in person its hard to tell. I know its a bit non-commital but if you want to chat more send me message. xxx

I agree, I'd get an equine bodyworker of some sort to look at it, massage, Equine Touch, Shiatsu, Bowen are all good for muscular problems. And they should tell you if you need to go the vet route. My friend's horse did something to his stifle in the stable so he could hardly walk. Just a couple of sessions of Equine Touch sorted that out completely. If an area is really swollen though you need to wait for it to go down first. :)

Funnily enough, the next morning when I went to check on him, he was out of his stable and stood in the aisle bit eating every single other horses breakfast. Needless to say, he is MUCH better. He doesn't look the slightest bit uneven when walked up and down- I don't know what happened but it was definitely a short term thing! There is no inflammation any more. I have learnt a bit of T-Touch which I regularly use with him, so have just massaged around the area like you said, Flicka :) Thank you both for your help!! :)
