Hello My mare has missed quite a bit of work due to an illness, i've slightly started back, but due to school and bad weather I haven't been there to lunge her [can't ride her at the moment] everyday day, when I can it's light as she's unfit. I don't have an arena, so I excercise her in a field, the weather gets bad, so I have to just pick out her feet and turn her back out, to avoid her trampling over the ground too much. Another ideas for bringing her back into work? And also.. Should I pick out her feet before and after excercise? I usually do it before.

When grenville was off work for 4 month it was a bit difficult getting him going because like you i was at school and it was winter, luckily we have a floodlit lunge pen but another thing i did was i long lined him along the quiet roads on weekends to get him fitter and to get him off the yard after his 4 month stuck on the yard! He really seemed to appreciate it. Also lunge in the field but move around so lunge in one corner for 5mins or so and then move to another corner for 5 mins to avoid churning up the ground. Hope this helps.
