Hi everyone, I've just got a new horse, Irish Draught X Thoroughbred, 16.2hh gelding and when we picked him up we noticed he wasn't as fat as we'd hope going into this part of winter now... I have started to feed him on Baileys Top line conditioning cubs and hay, plus he has a nice paddock to graze in, but also i am wanting to get him fit for hunting (fast!) but obviously not too quickly as i want to get to know each other etc, etc.... So what would u all do in my position?? I also don't have an arena :\ looking forward to hearing from u all!!!

i would recomend allen & page calm and condition (it is a mash) i use it in winter as grenville loses weight easy this time of year and it is fab, he also enjoys it warm on cold days :) also carrot stretches will help tone your horse up without schooling. Hope this helps

Keep riding. Light stuff but still ride. It increases their appitite and will help with muscle development. No work and it will all just be fat. Not what you want for a hunter. Rollins additives are great cause of the protien. I would also suggest adding an oil. Canola is good. Cold pressed is important. Sorry for the rushed reply. I am late for work. Lol

Personally I found Topline Conditioning cubes sent the only two we ever fed them to off their heads!I got on far better with Saracen show improver, got weight on a tbX who always worried. I now feed him Saracen Bio life feed balancer, which he will eat and enjoy. I tried Blue Chip, which alot of people swear by, but our old boy won't eat it. (Fuss pot!)

carrot stretches are just where you get a carrot and bend your horses head right round to either side, down between the legs etc so the horse stretches all his muscles especially the neck and back which improves topline and your horse will look foreward to it as there is food involved lol also try strapping, dazzle set a challenge to 'strap' and see if it tones your horse
