you need to get over your fear because it is inevitable that you will fall off, the best thing to do is to 'practice' falling off lol it sounds stupid but at my riding school we had a lesson on how to fall off, it was basically don't keep hold of the reins, relax when falling it will hurt less (it really does lol) and you have to think 99% of falls all you will hurt is your pride ;), i have fell off more times than i can count and only hurt myself once where i needed stitches but most the time i am in A&E cos i have fell downstairs or got shavings in my eye or something lol if you were scared of everything that could hurt you, you would be scared to cross the road, you just need to put things into perspective :) i had a bad fall and my horse trampled me and i was scared to hack on grass for a while but now i gallop without fear cos i just got so sick of being scared, it was taking the fun out of riding for me. Hope this helps, i tend to ramble :P |

yeh i know what you mean. i never ever had the feear but its almost gone now actualy. i used to...still do alot of fighting and judo my dad always told me tuck and roll when you fall of lol. weird but sometimes it helps. i gues the fear started last year my horse he used to be a pain ya know a bit nappy and had times where he reared on the lane. anyway none of that. it i gues was my fault the huge acident, only bad fall i had so far....hospitol over night lol. yeh i have to give it a try, its good also i need to know how my youngster reacts. |

yeah my horse rears in winter -.- he is an arse in winter don't know why maybe cos there is less turnout :P glad to hear its getting better :) and when i went for stitches what should have took a few hours took nearly all night haha you just have to try and forget it, it can be hard i sometimes get visions of falling and me opening my eyes to see grenville on his back legs hooves above my face again and it is only because it happened before but i am scared of it happening again but i figure i lived last time, it didn't actually hurt that much and it was an accident so i just decided one day to get on with it and i have been fine ever since :P |

yeh i know what ya mean like. awwww sorry to here that. tho i gues its also when people say think of something, about my old horse some reason that always comes into my head, it was my crappy rideing that made me fall but not his fault, and hes back feet got me under my body protector. and thats why i was in for the night horrible and painful, hey got me out of school PE for ages though. but took me ages to be like i was then didnt have long before wasnt rideing until start of this year. normaly my injury rate is very hight but dont know why its gone down this year which is great. until next year haha. |

There's a few great things that have been said on this post so:
Pretend that you're so not scared of falling off, laugh about it like you said, or practice it like Jess said, fake confidence and bravery when you don't feel it, because the longer you pretend to be fearless, the more real it becomes until you actually ARE fearless!
Good luck and have fun! x
