Does anyone jump in hoof boots? I want to do a sponsored ride with jumps, & to do a 12 mile ride that includes some lanes I'd normally put Sky's Cavallo boots on (she has been barefoot since March) especially as it's dry & the ground's hard, but next weekend I've one with jumps & I wondered if anyone has experience in jumping with quite heavy boots on? I don't want to hinder her front leg lift. When I jump at home I do so barefoot, I've only popped over logs out hacking with boots on. Thanks. |

I have never tried as i don't use boots but i think she would be ok as shoes are heavy too and horses manage fine with shoes on, maybe lunge her over a couple of jumps with them on to see how she is before taking her out on this ride just to be sure |

Good idea to lunge her first- then I can SEE how she seems to be in front with them on over a jump. Have to say they are a LOT heavier than metal shoes, tho' I'm going to get some lighter ones too to try. Thanks |

Well I did my sponsored ride in boots including all the jumps! they weren't big, not over 2'9". I did try lunging her over jumps first to see how she coped, thanks for that idea Jess; I'm not very good at it! but it convinced me next to have a try her over my home jumps (all 2 of them!!) with boots on, which was fine. I wouldn't fancy anything huge or complex, like a bounce, it just MIGHT make the difference & cause leaving a leg rather than snapping up quickly. The shop couldn't come up with the lighter sport boots soon enough, & I didn't want to do it barefoot & risk Sky getting sore feet just before some days on Exmoor!! especially as it's so dry & the ride had stony tracks & some roads. |

That's really cool-have you got any photos? Think that was a great idea to watch her jumping on her own in them first. Did you get any rubs? Think I agree though, I wouldn't want to do very big or complicated jumps in them. Wonder what they'd be like in a water complex-would you walk on water lol |
