Dreadful. Give me monty Roberts or Pat Parelli any day. There's no thought & definitely no horse sense behind this man, & it seems downright cruel to me.

I'm not going to comment on the tying the leg up I've seen it done very effectively. I don't like when they get on from the ground though. I wouldn't sent him a horse but I honestly wouldn't call him "cruel" There are better methods but there are a hell of a lot that are worse.

I don't like the tieing up a horses leg thing, if someone needs to take a leg away from a horse to get it to do something then they are crap horsemen in my mind lol i also do think it is cruel especially when he gets on the horse on three legs and it nearly falls over! It is personal opinion but i can't stand this man lol also @NMH i loved pat parelli until recently, while searching for these vids i found one of pat losing his rag with a horse at a demo because it didn't comply and he needed results infront of a live audience, i still applaud some of his work but he has gone down in my standards, monty however

Mental cruelty, I'd call it- if you do Parelli you get used to reading the horse's signs... the one being loaded John Pinnell's way is uncomfortable/afraid throughout. The one having its leg tied up is really scared, the one being 'caught' in a tiny pen- how ashamed would you be if you couldn't get your horse to WANT to be caught in that little area- it was cringing away from him to stand beside the other horse, where it felt slightly safer. Pinnell is SO rushed, un-thoughtful, I wouldn't want a horse he'd handled -it'd be 'frozen' into obedience not giving of itself freely & happily. I can't comment on what you say Jess about Parelli, from what I've seen I don't care for the man as a person especially -but his ways are brilliant & make for happy horses & humans & continue to make life better for millions of horses. They use horses to rehabilitate damaged humans using Parelli techniques too!

on the leg tying up thing. One of my coaches has used this while i was working for him The horse was broken in badly and as a result as soon as someone got into the saddle it threw them. Yes he reintroduced everything slowly and I couldn't have faulted how he worked with the horse and it really trusted him on the ground. But everytime someone got into the saddle they wouldn't be there long. He tied its leg up got me to leg him on. Horse realised it wasn't going to hurt him. I took the strap off horse never bucked again. As i said I don't like Pinnells methods but I can see merit in one of them if used correctly.

I still don't like it, taking a horses leg away is wrong to me no matter what the situation, it is never truely needed in my mind. Trainers such as monty would never use it, his father used such methods and he hated that man and he hates the idea of force, and it is force, you are unbalancing a horse so it is impossible for it to do anything other than hop to avoid falling over, can you imagine what could happen in the event of a horse bucking with one foreleg tied up? It could snap the other leg putting too much pressure on it if it tried to buck in panic etc. Even if it doesn't physically hurt the horse it is still mantally cruel to the horse in my personal opinion, i would never ever do it
