My friend has a 14.2hh stationbred x quarter horse mare which is 7 years old and she is having a lot of trouble with it. She can't walk it down the race without it rearing up and bucking, every time she rides, the pony will bolt down the side of the arena and start bucking violently even lunging it is a hassle as it rears and bucks and charges. It is on a hormonal powder that my friend has been putting in it's feed with toxin binder and alleviate c (magnesium) and the rest is just meadow hay chaff. Me and my friend have tryed to get this pony normal but we have run out of ideas we know it doesn't have sore back as it is ridden in a high quality treeless saddle it reguarly gets it feet trimmed and it's teeth gets done once a year. My friend is close to just selling it for any price so any advice would be great.

I know some people on here think this is a false diagnosis but have you considered kissing spine? My horse had kissing spine and did not do anything work related without bucking, he ended up having surgery to get rid of it. Also hormonal powder will do nothing if the problem is not hormone related, maybe try a magnesium supplement of some sort to calm her down? Also was she in full work prior to buyng her, was she backed late, had she been out of work for some time? All these things can factor in to why a horse acts up, if it was me i would go back to basics, i would remove the lunge line and free lunge so she could rear and buck as much as she wants without getting tangled as for the charging you need to be more strict, if you look 'scarey' (dominant) and show square shoulders, stareing intentionally etc she shouldn't charge, horses are flight animals so play on it. Once she is better at lungeing with and without rope i would long line, just basically re break the horse and when it comes to riding the first few times get someone who won't fall and won't give up to get on until she finds the whole bucking thing useless, you also may find it useful to lunge before riding but if your friend does not have the experience to help the horse then selling is probably the best idea to someone who can

Thank your for the advice. My friend has had a massage woman out a few times (and I trust this woman as she works with my horse) and there has been no problems with the spine. The woman told us that a big factor was hormones. My friend has lunged her before she rode but it has never seemed 2 make a difference and she cant free lunge because both her arenas are to big. Her mare is worked most evenings for about an hour. I'm not to sure about the previous owners but apparently the horses were just let out in a big paddock and came in sometimes for lunging or riding. My friend has her on a good magnesium and a hormonal treatment called moody mare.My friend has had this horse for about 2 years and its steadly gotten worse my friend is capable but she is at loose ends on what to do.
