Hi All, I rode horses most of my childhood then had a a 10 year gap while I had children. I decided to get back into riding but unfotunately bought a horse that threw me off on a busy road. I have lost all confidence and let the nerves set in ever since. I tried a few horses but none were quiet enough. I had my last baby almost 2 years ago and recently bought another horse, a draft tb cross. I havnt riden her yet so will let you all know how it goes. any tips would be great |

Did you not ride the horse before you bought it?! This is the worst thing to do in my mind as you will not know if the horse is right for you, how do you not know that it is spooky, flighty etc? It could be worse than your last one, if i was coming back into riding after a 10 year break i would have suggested a riding school first and some lessons then a part loan then full loan then buy to ease yourself back into it. Good luck with your new horse though and getting your confdence back :) |

Gosh Cherokeehaven, a two year and a new horse, thats a big ask. Its a truth universally acknowledged that you will ride anything, fall off thousands of times and not worry but the minute your children are born the world changes and your confidence slips. Although I agree with Jess about not trying your horse before you buy I wonder if you could tell us more about it. Is it an unbacked youngster or a schoolmistress type or something in the middle? What are you doing with it at the moment and where do you find the time with a toddler? I think its you who should be sharing your time/energy secrets! hahahahahaha. |
