Introducing my new project horse, Spike aka Majestic City :) Hims came in from winter with a bad case of rain scald and a round, ribby tummy, cracked hooves etc. He's not my horse of-course but I am taking charge of his recovery and will hopefully bring him back into work once his physical ills are sorted. I've seen how good he can look and am determined to bring him back to his former glory. Yeah, interesting way to deal with Piper's demise huh? This way Sienna gets a bit of a break. I literally follow her around the paddock these days, it's crazy! I know it is. OH tells me. ha ha

Yeh, great to see you've got yourself a new project horse so you can stop bugging Sienna lol. He definitely sounds like he needs a bit of TLC in the nutrition department which should help with all those problems. Look forward to hearing about his progress :) So, how old is he and what's his story? |

Spike is a 2001 so he's 10 now I think. I worked with him earlier this year at my friend's farm and his temprement then and now = awesome. He was sold in April and returned in August. He didn't do anything wrong and was only ridden once or twice, new owner lost interest :( He is a kiwi horse and won a few races apparently. I had the best gallop of my life on him earlier this year. Looking forward to more of those too :) |

I went up to see Spike yesterday but my friend wasn't there so I only saw him from the house :(
She called me today and told me that Spike was no worse, not that I expecetd him to be :)
Anywho he is now getting a feed of boiled barely, lucerne Chaff, Copra rice and pollard (I think) once a day.
I want to feed him 3 times a day to get some condition on him and was wondering what other TB owners feed their underweight horsies???
I'm thinking of including maxisoy (like beetpulp)?? Any other suggestions appreciated. Thanks. The pic is of my daughter and Spike about two years ago soon after he had finished racing.

Have you looked at Kibby's thread, The Foxman Recovery Effort? Also partly about getting condition/weight on an underweight TB! |

When i first bought grenville he was really under weight and he got 3 small feeds a day of Alfa-A oil (dengie), spillers conditioning mix/cubes (which ever is on offer at the time) and allen&page calm condition which is small cubes that become a mash when soaked for 10mins and now he only gets 1 feed a day in the summer and 2 in winter of the same feed and he is a chunky boy now ;) |
