Ugh, this makes me so mad!! PETA are trying to stop carriage rides from taking place in Oxford. They claim they put horses and the public at risk. “Horse-drawn carriages are dangerous to riders, pedestrians and motorists. Horses are very easily spooked and can shy, buck or flee, causing the driver to lose control and resulting in injury and even death to riders and passers-by.” Whether you're into carriage driving or not we need to stand up to these people NOW! Next thing you know they'll be saying that we shouldn't ride horses on the roads either! http://tinyurl.com/3vvszd7 |

OMG PETA they talk a load of BULL! I swear, they start on horse racing, UGG boots being 'cruel' and now horse and carriages! They need to get a grip, open their eyes and see the REAL dangers out there and real cruelty going on, if they have enough time to think up and publish sh** like this why can't they scrap it and put the effort into something worth while that will help horses and animals! Makes me so so mad! All these petitions against racing etc from PETA i think we should do a petition to close down PETA, world horse welfare, the blue cross etc seem to deal with the real problems while PETA just make a bloody nuisance of themselves!!! Everyone on the site should write a letter to them and just overload them with hate mail! |

I quite agree and personally wouldn't dare step onto the beach when a donkey is about lol. But we shouldn't just dismiss them, even though we think they're totally ridiculous, as they seem to be good at getting celebs involved and galvanizing support-I think they've almost managed to close down carriage rides in New York haven't they? But in that case they said it was for horse welfare reasons. I reckon because they think they've been successful in the USA, they're having a go at carriage drivers here. |

PETA is very good at this: they get videos of accidents in New York with horses (I wouldn't want to drive a horse in New York, but that's not the point). If they had their way there would be no animals kept or "exploited" by humans - no pets, no farm animals or birds, no zoos, no vets, no farriers... No milk in your tea. I don't understand their world view - looks pretty dull to me! What would happen to all the grass? Would we just concrete it over?
Has the rot started here? One town council "suggesting" that riders get off and kick their horse's droppings to the side of the road? Hmm, do that off a bouncing 16.2 horse! How do you get back on? Perhaps we need to carry telescopic brushes in our pockets!
The British Driving Society made a study of the horrible "poo collectors" which are sometimes used on the continent for carriage and sleigh horses but the BDS concluded they are not good for the horse's welfare.
Yes, as a carriage driver, thanks for your support - if they get us it will be all other equestrian road users next! |

Yeah its my fricking town council that said it lol none of us are taking any notice what so ever, they can take the horse crap and shove it up their... Well they can do what they like with it lol. I still think PETA are rather useless despite getting celebs and what not on side i mean there are far far better and more worrying issues to address but im wondering whether they actually believe what they say or they just say it because no one else has brought it up! I think welfare charities would do well if not better without PETA bringing up more 'issues'! |

Oh I SO agree!! Those PETA morons are such ignorant __(fill in the blank)____s it's dangerous. When I was in college, they let 15 brood mares out of their pasture, because, you know, "Horses are supposed to run free."... and shooed them off the property towards a wash (a big dry river)... into one of the businest roads in town - 4 lanes of traffic!! Only one horse got hurt, thank God, and not badly... And there was only one car accident. The mares just milled around trying to get back to the barns. Good girls! The farm hands got there at about 5am and found them, and discovered the whole thing, and got them safely back into their pen. |

Oh yeah and re: the milk in your tea comment... PETA have obviously never seen a cow suffering from mastitis.
While I was studying German, and we were apired up to have converdsations with the person next to us, when I told the gal I was an Animal Science major (equine pre-vet), she thought I waqs studying how to do experiments on horses, like putting chemicals in bunnies' eyes. When I told her, no, it was nutrition and barn management, to protect their health and safety (etc), she didn't believe me. Dumba$$. |
