My friend had 2 horses she wants me to back and break for her as she is not confident enough to do it herself and doesnt have the money to get them sent away. the problem is one of them is 5 and hasnt had anything done wiht him just been out in filed and sometimes groomed or walked on headcollder along a lane. the other he is just very bossy and the other horses follow what he does and the donkey does to. so the main problem is the hprse that is incharge and the 5 year old that needs backing and breaking. has anyone got any ideas how this can be done? |

My new pony is arriving tomorrow. A 13.2hh welsh C. But at 9 years old she has only ever been used as a broodmare and is currently unbroken.
I have re-schooled ex-racers before, but never backed or broken from scratch. Even on a youngster this would be a challenge for me, but on a pony of 9 - how much more of a challenge will this be?
I would appreciate some advice from anyone who has ever broken an older horse/pony?? Or any backing/breaking advice in general please?
Thank you so much. Rach x |
