I like some of Monty's work but wouldn't follow his methods with my riding. Yes I agree that confidence is important whatever method you choose and the natural way isn't always the gentle way. To be honest if we were all taught to ride properly then I think we would have fewer problems with our horses. For me, good 'traditional' training is the best way, if you can find it-there's a lot of third rate teaching out there!

yeh. its kinda whats right for you and that. i went away for a few days and the horses were....almost abused and it shocked compared what im used to. i mean i used to use traditinal for a few yesrs until my old horse got ill then then i thought the best for me and my new horse. though its what suites you as a person i find.

I wouldn't say the fight attitude more a dominant disposition, you have to remember horses are constantly reading your body language and i believe they pic up on a person's energy, no horse has ever rubbed their head on me because my 'bubble' says don't and grenville knows when he is and isn't allowed to come into the bubble from that body language, it is like the other day a fight broke out among the horses all crowding at the gate for a carrot that had been dropped and when i walked in i kept square and walked right in and every single one of them backed up and everyone says the horses are scared of me, that isn't true they just know i mean business. Also i have never had to touch grenville to get him to move i simply move toward him and click and he will move away from me happily. Also was wondering if you had watched 'shy boy' by monty roberts, if you haven't then watch it :) it always gets me crying lol

yeh. my 3 year old i do the same wiht her walk towards and the other horses, the woman who owns one of them she is sorta scared of her horse but her horse keeps away whenm i walk square. to her. after doing join up actua;ly quite funny how all the horses respect even more for me now as they know what ill do if the get in my bubble. not that i would hit them for doing it but i would get them away from me. my 3 year old is the best behaved on th hole yard the amount of training is just bit in morning and after schooll. they have to learn to respect you and ler that your the boss. no i havent though im reading his bood at the moment lol

I havent done any real breaking in. But i have seen a lady use Parelli on her arab since he was a foal, so when he got to 3 years she started to back him. As far as i am aware he was never bothered by her on his back. He behaved perfectly. this might be due to the bond she created through pareli methods or his temperament but he was genuinly vice free when backing... If i was backing a horse i would want to use a mixture of natural and traditional, to see which the horse reacts best to, then lean more towards that one :)
