Having been to a few horse trials recently it's made me think about what a good support team you need around when you compete in any sport. And particularly if you want an early start in competition, how family are the key to success. In this video, two Canadian Eventers talk about how their family have supported them. I saw both of them compete this year at Badminton, Stephanie Rhodes-Bosch on Port Authority and Hawley Bennett on Gin and Juice. How have your family supported your competition dreams? Do you think you could have done it without them? Are riders who are supported by their family at an advantage?

My family are very supportive of me in terms of my competing. My dad, if anything, persuades me to enter competitions regularly so i can keep practicing and improving. As i'm only 17, it is my dad who drives me around and my parents who support me financially. I could definitely not do it without them. I've gone from having a horse who i just had fun on, hacking jumping etc.. to a horse who i compete on regularly, qualify for championships on and have lessons weekly. I do believe that although this is because i wanted to progress, without my parents support, this would not have been at all possible! Thanking about it.. i do need to show my appreciation a little more as they do, do a lot for me! :')

not really lol my parents hate grenville but my grandad on the other hand pushes me to go to shows and will do a last minute shope before shows for me and will meet me there with what i need no matter what time and he bought grenville and pays for him! I LOVE MY GRANDPARENTS :D especially my grandad, my grandma supports me with 'go on then' for everything i need rather than jumping at the chance like grandad, he loves grenville, he also gets up at the crack of dawn to feed and turnout grenville before work :) i would never have had animals let alone grenville if it wasn't for grandad

Kind of.. not completely. They would let me ride anywhere I want, but to me it's really not about riding, but about having a horse of my own. A certain horse, not any. None of them likes horses and my mom's even afraid of them. Even thought I'd do evrything with him, they still won't do it. :(
