I don't know how many of you have heard of these guys but i thought it would be a good thing to share. They are working toward getting every rider to realise that you can replace a helmet but there is no replacing you brain.. I have experienced the virtue of a helmet a number of times as I am sure you all have too.. this is there facebook link, go like them and spread their word. http://www.facebook.com/riders4helmets http://www.riders4helmets.com/ |

JUst looked at the page! I never have ridden without a hat/helmet and i don't plan to either! Knowing how important our little bodies are i am very cautious anyway, but after witnessing my friends falling off there horse and onto there heads and getting concussion while wearing there hat does make you think.. what if...! im the same with Body protectors, i know people dont like wearing them.. but if you fall off and break your back.. trust me you do not want to end up how i have!! so i am very conscious with that also! Will pass the link on!! :D |

Great website, just had a quick look. It's not rocket science is it you only need a quick look to realise it is truly not worth the risk. |

i have jumped without a hat once but it was only a small cross and i had totally forgot to put it on but i would never ride without a hat on purpose, it REALLY annoys me when people don't wear hats and to me seem almost ignorant that they think they are some sort of god that won't have a bad fall but no one is invindible, even if the majority of falls aren't serious it only takes the once. |

I've just read that the UK may follow in the footsteps of the US and Canada by making it a rule that lower level dressage riders have to wear helmets-British Dressage is just finding out what it's membership think about a rule change for 2012. And has anyone else seen this new safety dressage top hat made by Dutch company L'Hiver. It features a chin strap and a crash hat inside. What do you think-is it a Yeh or a Neigh? Revealing my shallow side I'm afraid it's a neigh from me. Think it's pretty pricey too-does anyone know?

I heard british dressage were getting feedback from their members before they made a rule. Personally I love Canada's and US ruling. I like australia's in that anyone (EFA registered) under the age of 18 must wear a helmet while mounted. I think under no circumstance should a child get on a horse without a helmet.... |

I also think anyone wanting to be covered by any equestrian federation's insurance you should be wearing a helmet regardless of discipline.. but to be honest i don't think the helmet look is that bad, or that one above.. I'd like to see that on someones head. |

i know its really bad to ride without a hat and most times i dont wear them is because i forgot. that was before. the day i fractured my wrist and landed super hard on the ground i was wearing a helmet and even then i think i blacked out for about 5 seconds. after that i continuosly kept on thinking.......what would have happened if i wasnt wearing a helmet?? my friend that i knocked down when i fell was also wearing a helmet and she landed with such force that her helmet cracked and i also thought........what would have happened if she wasnt wearing her helmet?? since then i have always made sure that both me and my friend always wore a helmet no matter what kind of riding it was even if it was just a walk for 3 steps. always wear a helmet no matter what :P |

My daughter works as a tack shop manageress and regularly gets people in with hats that they want 'checked to see if they are still ok' after they've had a fall and hit them. They don't seem to realise that you cannot tell its damaged because they are made to absorb the impact by sort of 'crushing' inside the shell. She also gets people in wanting to buy hats for someone else (therefore not fitted correctly) and people who just want to find out what size they want so they can buy second hand off the internet. Or they want to buy too big so child can grow into it!!! Completely mad! |
