ok people, the time has come when i need ur help again lol :P as you know before, nutmeg had problems with jumping. well now we are past that problem and she happily jumps the jump from that side, but now she always refuses the jump coming from the other direction!! i tried puting poles on the ground and troting her over them from that direction and she does it fine so now i have no idea what to do. any ideas???? and also there is this certain place on the farm (longish strip of ground) and she hates jumping there. she gets all nervous and refuses or speeds towards it and started letting out a nervous sweat. i ride her down there all the time and shes perfect but once i start jumping she gets all nervous. anyone know ways to solve these problems????

i thought she was lame? maybe this has something to do with it if she is lame and it is worse on a certain rein then she might not be able to make the jump, i would certainly investigate to see whether it is connected because grenville refused some jumps a few weeks ago and then went lame and the reason he refused is he now has arthritis in his fetlock too, if she's not lame i'll think up some more ideas :)

hahahaha yea she is lame but this has been an ongoing thing and i never really payed much attention to it until now so i dont think it has anything to do with her being lame (hopefully) i think her limp may be caused by her rolling it or wacking it on something because it is very slowly disappearing. the one thing is that now she is bobbing her head up and down when she trots so i think that is part of her limp becuase she didnt do it before :( i am completely clueless on both the jumping and limping. why do you think she has a problem with the one area??

have a look whats around it.. Down were i ride i don't ride too close to the fence because the creek runs next to it and she is so used to seeing rabbits, dogs chasing rabbits and a number of birds around there she expects something to jump out and scare her.. maybe your area is scrubby too. also i would not be riding let alone jumping her is she is limping. head bobbing comes with being lame.. it just means she is still sore

when they nod their head in trot they are VERY lame (dog lame as i call it) and often in quite a bit of pain. dont ride her until you know what it is the nodding of the head is to take weight off the painful leg when the head nods downward she is putting the weight on the good front leg and when she lifts it she is taking the weight off the painful leg so yeah if it was me i wouldn't be riding or exercising and certainly not jumping, if it has been ongoing you should really get the vet out...

honestly with her being as lame as you describe i think it will have something to do with that, if she was only a bit lame like mud fever lame where you can hardly feel it or see it i wouldn't worry but when i horse is lame to the point of head nodding i worry, it could be a bruise or cellulitis if there is a cut or it could be arthritis etc but only your vet will be able to tell you. good luck :)

thanks guys :P with her foot it feels the same as the other one all the way down the leg etc her head bobbing is only very minor and i havent been riding her since we noticed it just incase :P when we feel down her foot she doesnt react to it at all but right at the bottom of her leg (near her hoof) there is a bone and on her sore leg it sticks out a bit more (just remembered sorry) so could this be something or just the way her foot was placed on the ground. it really has me stumped on what it is because there are no actual things that tell us what. with the jumping thing and not jumping it one way that has nothing to do with her being lame because its been like that since ive known her :P anymore theories?? my mum said she is going to get the farrier out to trim her feet and my mum says shes not going to get a vet at the moment a) because its not her horse (my firends but they dont do anything about her no matter how hard i try) b) because they will have no idea what it is and its just a waste of money (appariently) so absolutely stumped :P

I doubt it would be if she isn't showing discomfort but it could be internal like arthritis or a pulled muscle or cellulitis but if it isn't in the foot (when the farrier comes) you would have to get x rays etc done to find out what it is in order to treat it but your farrier could find something but i would mention it to your friend about the vet but if she has always been like that it could be she is facing away from where she wants to be, it sounds silly but my horse jumps better facing toward the gate to leave the school than the other fence because he wants to go out lol
