If you want to improve your show jumping you need to focus on the right spot. Read some really interesting new research then let us know if you think you've got your eyes on the prize and share any tips you have for improving focus :D

That is interesting! It is something that we do without really thinking about it. Would love to see how I would .... Ooo! A squirrel!! What was I talking about?

I definitely know I get distracted by my horse and often look down at her. But then I look over the jump, rather than focus on the top rail which is probably why Millie is in such a hurry to get to the other side-apparently the pt2pt rider spent least time looking at fence but were focused on the other side!! Really interesting.

I look over the jump and at the wall or whatever is after it and aim to get to that object by going over the jump its what i have always been taught and it seems to work cos gren has only ever knocked two rails since i bought him, he has ran out or refused but he pretty much always clears it :)

In that clip, tho' they are talking about & studying where Tim looks on the final approach- at the top rail- I did notice how very very early he looked AT the jump on the longer approach, before the turn to it.

wow thats some technology lol i will look at the jump as i turn for it, once i get my line, i look beyond the jump or at the next jump, on take off i will look to the next jump, or look at the line for the next jump. it works for me, i had an awful habit of looking down and then we would mess up our stride and have an awkward jump, but it always seems to go well wen i look up and ahead lol

I look up at a distant point over the jump and aim towards it. That's interesting. I'll have to try looking at the jump the next time I'm jumping.

Payed attention to wear i look yesterday at my lesson.. I will look at the jump as i begin my turn onto it. focus on the center of the top rail until i cant see it (just a bit before take off) then look to my next jump, if it is in my line of sight concentrate on that if not. look at my path to the jump until i can see it then start again.. But i was concentrating a lot.. I think thinking about where i looked really helped me as at other lessons i have heard "don't look down!!"
