Lame or just 'footy' unshod? Shoeing can mask issues a horse may have making it appear sound when it isn't. But taking the shoes off a horse and trotting it up (on what surface?)is not a fair test of a horse's soundness or otherwise. If a horse has been shod for a while it could just need time/conditioning to become sound unshod. There are loads of variables :)
