hey i am not completely sure if my mare has arthritis and i thought some of you could help. my mare is fine and free moving on the flat and going up hills but when she goes down hill even a slight slope she drags her hind feet (mainly right) i was wandering if this is arthritis or something else. anyone know?

Hi It could be a number of problems but no reason why arthritis should show more in a hind leg going downhill when the weight would be mostly forward. Sounds like you need further investigation by your vet. Best wishes HorseVet

Gren has bone spavin but it showed more on uphill when he was using his hind legs to push the body foreward whereas down hill his frontlegs were taking most of the weight but if it is arthritis i would ask your vet about tildren because grenville had it and it has actually treat his artheritis and has helped on the road to curing what i thought was something you have to live with, he isn't at all short strided or lame now lol

Hi, There are plenty of natural remedies to help arthritis including cider vinegar already mentioned and homeopathy, herbs etc. Better to find something that works in this way rather than injecting joints where you can't be sure what damage in ongoing whilst covered for pain IMO.
