Suddenly eek, I've just realised this year is almost over. So I thought it would be a good time for all of us to reflect on how well we did achieving this years resolutions before we set some more goals for next year! Personally I feel I've really come a long way, my confidence has improved, my riding has definitely improved, my relationship with Millie(pictured at Lucinda's) has blossomed dramatically after years of frustration and I've really got back into my jumping although I haven't really competed much-that will be my aim for 2011. Big thanks go to Caroline Putus who does the confident riding group on here, trainers Lucinda McAlpine and Nick Moon and all the wonderful people I've met and been inspired by on Trot on :D

What a lovely picture of Millie! Sounds like you have done really well in 2010. I can't remember all my goals really! Ughh a year ago seems so far away lol! But I do remember we wrote our goals somewhere on here, I shall take a look and report back. Generally though, my year had been going really well, in terms of building my relationship with Ryan, we went on a hunt ride and tackled some rather large hedges! I had hoped to go out with the EABH, having joined. But due to Ry having an injury at the start of the season and now me taking a break from riding whilst pregnant it didn't quite happen. So this will be one for the future!! I am very keen to get back in the saddle, so I suppose just doing that in 2011 will be a goal that I know I will have no trouble in sticking to!! In the mean time I can enjoy hearing of everyone else's rides and riding goals on here, so please keep posting your stories so I can get my horsey fix!!! |

Just looked back at what I said and I have achieved them all! WOOHOO, got round 4 or 5 courses clear 80cm being the biggest which I'm over the moon with! Also did my first working hunter and got a 1st and a trophy....also over the moon! Did cross country for the first time too and did some more endurance and very little showing. And I've had many fantastic lessons with my fab dressage instructor although haven't got pony going as well as I wanted, I shall continue to work on that with more lessons this year. |

My plans to really work with'Dallas' my I.D. fell apart when I tore the ligaments in my knee during january..great start.Turned out to be worse than I thought and still not able to ride, though not much longer now! I lost my beautiful warmblood in April, and really got down, felt so low. I decided that I had to do something positive and after wanting a Shire colt of my own (for what seems a lifetime),I started to search seriously. Yeh! I found him, other end of the UK,logistical nightmare but knew as soon as I saw the pictures and spoke to his breeder,he was the one I was looking for.I went to see him, hellish long journey..that was worth every minute. He came home in September and I am delighted with him..so I've had an up and down year, ending with acheiving a near lifetime goal.Heres to next year when I plan to show him..something I've never done before...and hopefully getting back on a horse too. :D |

Its nice to think back, i have to say my year with sam has been touch and go but its really helped me and my riding and with how i train horses, huge learning curve but a good one.. But i think i did everything i set out to do with Phil, our relationship has improved an amazing amount and it shows in the results we have been having.. Its been a good year :) I am so happy with how my riding has improved, i have learnt how to see a problem and solve it stress free now... I have to say a huge thank you to everyone that has been helping me with my possibly annoying and consistent questions you have been a huge help.. And well done to everyone else who has achieved their goals.. See you in the New year :) |

Ha ha thanks to NMH I checked on my original resolutions in the thread 'Make the commitment' and saw that I'd wanted to be jumping at British Novice-well that didn't happen and neither did my plan to be able to ride without a saddle or a bridle. I had planned to organise a tackless challenge to try and raise money for charity but didn't have the time-aghh what a terrible excuse!! I think the thing about confidence and having fun again when riding was foremost in my mind but now it's time for doing the same when competing:) |

I was pretty cautious with my aims- "get me & mare going with confidence" - but there again I hadn't brought her back into work after her slightly traumatic breaking away from home yet,& had no idea how she'd take it. So, yes, goal achieved, & maybe as it has gone well I should stick my neck out further with more specific aims this year- dare to fail!! |

Great thanks NMH, how funny it is to read what I wrote a year ago. Well I would say I definitely reached my goal of improving my riding, my muscles etc. I hadnt realised I had only just started riding Ryan last year. Ive learnt a lot from him, he is a wise old man!! He didnt get me off, but did have some dam good tries! I did manage to have a few lessons throughout the year, at one point it was every couple of weeks which helped me immeasurably as I hadn't had a lesson for a very, very long time!! I also got the opportunity to ride a variety of other horses too, helping with ex racers. |

ooh my....all the resolutions I set as goals for myself I failed to achieve; work on finding my seat,it is not where I would like to be but at least I no longer fell like a bouncy ball, strength/stamina well one needs to actually exercise to accomplish this one, natural horsemanship ,sent out many request and never got a response back, the beach ride, probably the hardest to swallow but you can't predict the weather. Everything was in place to fulfill this dream except that the weather had turned brutal following a severe storm that hit the east coast the day before the scheduled ride, 60 plus mile per hour winds and the ride was canceled, but that is ok with me as I had more fun this past year then I could have possibly imagined. In fact the day we were suppose to go to the beach Mariah actually went on her first hunter pace instead, with me riding her so I guess there has been some progress in the confidence area. 2011 looks to be even better as we now have our own transportation. When asked at Christmas where my presents were I happily replied Parked in the driveway..
