I thought we could share our embarrassing moments, I figure there must be a few funny stories to tell!! In fact I am absolutely sure some horses have a laugh at putting us in those sticky situations from time to time. One I can think of is when I was hacking out on a long ride in the middle of winter, the horse I was on decided to try and roll in the ford as he was hot and sweaty. It had not crossed my mind he may be so mad to do this, nor did he give me much options as he literally threw himself down, no pawing or warning! I screamed at him and kicked him on but it was too late. I was in for a dunking in freezing cold water! Anyway, not only did my riding companion think this was hilarious, I was embarrassed to find out this had been written about in the next edition of the RDA news (as he was an RDA horse). Shamed!! Another story I have is of a friend. We were on a riding holiday in Norfolk as kids and it was the last day that involved a beach ride. Anyway, her horse named Dorris decided she was going to charge off having not moved much all week, the neighbouring beach was a nudist beach. Dorris charged over to the nudist beach and then stopped, rooted to the spot. Very appropriately in front of an elderly naked man. My friend had full view and was trying desperately to move Dorris, without much luck!!! She didnt live that down for years, nor did she get over the shock!!

there must be dozens, but off the top of my head ....Having to pursue my pony into the ILPH HQ indoor school in the middle of someones dressage test after she had bucked me off in the working in arena! Why had no-one shut the gate? why were the doors to the school wide open? She made it to X before i caught her, much to the annoyance of the girl riding her test! (she won anyway, the judge thought it was funny). Years ago when I helped out in a riding school I was told to ride the 10.2 in a lesson because he was being naughty with the kids (I am 5ft and at that time weighed about 7 stone)Lesson full of kids, small jumps, I came off twice in five minutes, got shouted at by the owner ('You are supposed to be making him behave!!')And then I said,' I think he's had enough now, I'm a bit heavy' cos I knew perfectly well that if I carried on he would have me off again. He jumped the jump and went instantly sideways, and I just hit the deck!

My most embarrassing moment happened many years ago. I used to help at a riding school and one day I took a pony back to it's field which was located next to the village green. There were 2 retired "Thelwell" type ponies already in the field, as I opened the gate one of them decided to make a run for it, but as I tried to shut the gate he knocked the holding post down and galloped out of the field. The only problem was there was a cricket match going on at the time, this little pony went straight across the cricket ground. Unfortunately the cricketers decided to help to catch him by running after the pony, there was bedlam, the more they chased him the more he dodged them and kept running. Eventually the owner of the riding stables was called and she managed to get hold of him. I have never been so embarrassed, I still don't know if they ever finished their game and I dread to think what the headline was in the next Village News letter !

When i was younger and we lived on a big property out west i went for a bareback ride on my horse mad mick (deserved name) and we were on our home when he found a lovely green patch. He threw his head down and pulled me along. I rolled down his neck taking the bridle off at the same time. Mad mick never one to miss an opportunity like that galloped off, leaving me to have to walk two k's home. Physically unharmed but i had a very bruised ego that day.

My most skillful embarrassing moment would have to be the first time i took my mare in a 1m class. It was all going great until i lost my stirrup over one jump and lost my balance. No idea what happened but i know i landed on my feet running next to her still holding the reins.

I was Trail riding with a group for the first time and my horse suddenly began digging at the ground with his hoofs. Next thing I know he lies down with me still on his back, I was able to get off him just before he started rolling on the ground.Apparently, he was trying to cool off from the long walk. But I could tell everyone was laughing at me because I looked like I'd seen a ghost!
