I just thought I'd put this question out, when i was a kid my friends and i would always be racing around on our ponies, usually bareback with a halter and we fell off a lot, i mean a lot. Doing silly things like trying to do that cowboy thing where you ride under a tree/beam of some kind grab hold of it and swing off the horse.. or playing tag on horses. We even started one game where the winner pushed the other off the horse while we were all standing around.. But i think this has affected me in the fact that i had all these pointless silly falls where none of us got hurt. Still i ride without a care in the world if i hit the deck because i get straight back on and its always a funny story.. I am not one to try my hardest to get back on after losing my balance if i think i'll be fine i just let go roll away, catch the horse start again.. Has anyone else ha similar experiences of just being kids, do you think its helped? maybe i'm just completely crazy :P

thats an interesting concept i really hadn't thought about! I was commenting the other day that all of those 'harmless falls' I had when I was a kid have probably caused all of the back problems I have today... Im the opposite to you, I refuse to fall cos even the 'soft' ones leave me with a week worth of back spasms. All of that said, I'm sure all of those falls I had have made me a confident rider who is able to handle a lot more of what a horse can throw at me. Just thinking about the 'games' we used to play, my sister & her friend used to undo each others saddles &/or pull each others bridles off while they were galloping along, or we'd race while sitting backwards on our horse steering with our hands behind our back.... Sometimes I really wonder how none of us got hurt!

It is amazing any one gets through being a kid, its almost like we tried to kill ourselves.. I wished one day we had a camera recording us on one of our rides, there were 4 of us three ponies, so my friends was doubling with me, when we saw two emus.. Thought it be fun to chase them.. A word of caution, horses don't like emus.. haha all of us fell off that day and the ponies took it as a cue to go home.. I think you are right about the back pains though, i already have a worse back then any 19 yr old should..
