I bought a horse who I was told needed a little work, this was my first horse but I was very used to and confortable with horses and farely expirenced but lately he has been rearing up when I try to get him back in his paddock and taking off with me outside when I ride him, and inside he will roll over with me on him, I've tryed my hardest to train him better but my parents and I have realized that he is just too much for me and have been looking for a new horse. When I went and rode a mare who was very energetic I was nervous and thought I wasnt good enough for her, when both owner and my mom said I handeled her great, I realized then that I lost alot of my confindence but not ability. Now I really want and need a horse to ride that is energetic that can keep up with my barrel racing dreams but I also need help with my confindence levels to keep up with that type of horse. just wondering if anyone has any ideas to build up confidence with out losing this horse that could be perfect for me |

Stop worrying. No one says you have to buy a energetic horse just yet, you're pushing yourself too hard and your confidence will only get worse so just stop, think for a second and relax. You need to get a horse that is totally safe and totally calm, only once your confidence is back will you be ready for the energetic horses again so just take your time and enjoy riding well behaved horses. Instead of getting worked up think to yourself "it's ok" and find a quiet horse for now. If this horse makes you nervous it is not what you need right now. Take it easy and don't rush yourself. |

Next time you go out just tell yourself over and over and over that 'I am a good rider, I will succeed, and I will be confident.' It's hard at first but once you start telling yourself that it slowly becomes a reality. The more you say it to yourself the more you believe it. |
