Hi all, hope you are well. I want a bit of advice, my daughter who is 9, would like to enter the tack and turnout class at a local show, and i would like to know a few things. Does she need a hacking jacket or a dark show jacket? Does she have to wear her body protector, as it has to go over her jacket? What colour gloves? Does she have to make the pony do a 'show' of any sort, like walk, trot or canter? I never did these things when i was young so any advice would be most appreciated, please add anything that i may have missed, just general rules about T & T. Thank you very much in advance, and sorry John I haven't been on here for a while.

hi, this might not be much help but I think either jacket is ok, think body protector is up to you, I did this once & didnt have to do a show, they mainly inspected the tack was very clean, fitted well, all keepers in neatlty, clean stirrup irons really well underneath as well.! a bit of baby oil on ponies muzzle also looks good.

I,ve done a bit of showing , i dont think you have to do any thing just make your daughter and pony look its best, plait mane and tail, and clean all tack. At the end of the day it depends what the judge likes the best just go and enjoy and good luck.

I have also done quite a bit of this sort of showing. You have to make sure both pony & rider are immaculate. Remember to clean under riders boots and ponies hooves inside & out need to be very clean too. Oh and my friend got picked up on a slightly knotty tail so make sure that is knot free too. All she will really have to do is sit there and look good while the judge inspects all aspects of pony & rider. Some judges wear white gloves and run their finger under the tack to make sure it is clean too. With the number you should shape it & pin onto jacket if possible as this shows that you pay attention to detail. Depending on what type of pony you have quarter markings are good too. A hacking jacket is better for showing and depending on the colour then gloves to match & a showing cane, with ties she will need to have a tie pin too. God so much to think of! Good luck and hope she does really well. XxX

Right i would say no to body protector, a dark showing jacket, gloves- i dunno i didn't wear gloves. Walk and trot they will do. If it is a seerious comp not a 'fun' one you will need to geet a peice of grass put it under his muzzle so he arches his head, that is a fave of the judgees! good luck
