well it depends on how old he is as if he is quite young he wont be able to eat hard food so hay and grass would be fine but if hes older than 1 then he should be ok with some hard food, hope i helped

Our's were sharing hard feed with their mum's while they were still suckling...they are yearling's now and were out most of the winter on hard feed and haylage, we only brought them in for a few week's of the big freeze. I don't think you need to feed too much, because what you don't want is him to get laminitis, he does probably need some vitamins and minerals but yuo could give him a broad spectrum supplement with a little hi fi chaff and high fibre nuts, he shouldn't really need anything else because if he has toomuch he will just get fat and this won't help his growth at all, you need to keep the youngster lean, so he grows nice and straight, obviously his feet need trimming regularly too.
