hi ive recently gotten a new horse his a great jumper but when he tenses infront of a jump he will knock the rail- problem one :P problem two- when i face him up to smaller jumps say like 75cm he will be more likely to knock that rather when i face im up to something like 1.10m. so two questions how can i help my horse not to tense infront of the jump and why is my horse knocking small jumps when he clears much bigger ones? thnx heaps

well the the small classes is because he doesnt feel challenged, my horse is impossible in anything under 1m..

Because of the second photo, I just wondered if you gave enough with your hand and were allowing him to bring his head up in front of the fence so that he can see it. Just could be a reason why he's getting tense. Is he knocking it with his front feet? Could be because of tension in the neck or a saddle that's trapping his shoulder. Make sure you don't hold your breath, that could be another reason he tenses and sometimes we don't realize we're doing it!
