I have been looking on several chat rooms throught the world wide web and many have been disscusing if the contents of the book were true. Also disscusing the fact that his relatives had made and online book Monty Lies. I was just wondering if anybody had read the book and what your thoughts are to the questioning of the truthfulness of the book.

i am in the process of reading this on line book,im not sure what to make of it, Ther are statements from Monty's brother saying that Monty was never beaten by his father and neither was his mother, In fact he says his mum was a very strong almost bossy woman and certainly wasnt subservient to monty's dad, I would like to see what Monty Roberts thinks of the book and wether he feels the need to defend himself or even sue his family for slander. Does Monty even know abour the online book.? It is certainly contrivertial.Montys brother Larry also wrote that monty lied about being a stand in for Elizabeth Taylor in national velvet.but why would Monty lie about something like that? i dont know .It is worth a read, i will post more as i read more.

I am very sure Monty would know about the several websites and the fact that he is not appealing any of them does raise suspision. Maybe his fictional biography was a publicity stunt in order to get more people to consider his work. The join up technique is highly benifical to the equine commintity and awareness of how equines behave however there are comments that Montey's work is more aimed at the coperate world then at the equine world. It is suggested he simply uses the horse as a metaphor for an employee.

I am also reading Monty Roberts book Horse sense for people and what you have stated Florence rings true. I have thought about this and my opinion is that ok Monty allegedly lied about his background, but so what! I cant deny what i have seen with my own eyes , And that was a great horseman at work. if by telling one lie he has helped just one child see the way to a better life or one horse owner have a better understanding of their horse then he has still achieved his life's goal of leaving this world a better place for people and horses.Lets not forget all the foster children he has mentored and fostered.I am asking myself the question why would relatives now write a book that will help to assasinate the whole character of Monty roberts? and if Monty knows about this book and is choosing not to defend himself in my opinion Monty feels he has nothing to defend and is showing pride and spirit by not rising to it and causing more damage to his character, I respect this man and lets not forget he is now 75 years old.and his age alone deserves respect.I dont know if Monty lied and the fact that some people believe he did does not change my respectful opinion of him and i hope others will feel the same.

ok. after reading the last chapters of the book,Monty's Lies. his family and lots of close friends of the family are out raged by what Monty has said about his parents. the people conserned only ever witnessed cruelty alledgedly it came from Monty not his father. They also said that Monty claimed credit for winning things that he hadnt won but his brother Larry did,and the book was ended by saying that Monty Roberts wanted all the glory and believes that he is better than anyone, the only person who was thought to be a better horseman was Monty's father. multiple witnesses state that no violence was ever commited by Monty's dad, and the family home had lots of people around all the time.Hmm. i dont know what to think.has anyone else read this book and what did you make of it.Family feud or jelousy .It also says that Monty never spent time with mustangs and the act of joinup was the way his dad would teach people who couldnt catch thier horse.

I have only read the first 3 chapters of this book and I'm not sure how much more I can be bothered to read. Its all a bit Mills and Boon, the women are beautiful and the men handsome and square jawed. There is a lot of conjecture but not much hard evidence. Its well known that families remember certain events differently. So far the biggest lie has been a slight discrepancy in dates the American version says 1939 and in England its 1940. Hardly a whopper.

Has anyone bothered to finish this book? Todays outrage by the family was that Monty had swapped his stetson for a tweed cap! I bet every member of this site has heard of Monty Roberts and sometime has tried join up with some or no success. It doesn't matter to me if you are pro or anti Monty but I bet he has made you think. If he has improved only a handful of horse's lives then it matters not a jot what his history is. Personalities are not important but improving horses lives most certainly is.

I found Monty's book a great read. It was very interesting. I haven't read it since it was new, but I still remember it kept me interested. I did try to the join up at the time. I really don't know what to take from my results though. All my horses could lunge on a line. Some refused to touch my back but they would walk right up and stand at my shoulder and follow if I walked off. He still has his ranch and school in California. But up in the Northwestern US he is pretty much just laughed at now. Though people laugh at all the natural horsemanship. I like some of it but not all of it, I just pick and choose what to use. There is a girl here at our barn I wish she would learn some Natural Horsemanship instead of just beating her horse all the time.

Just stumbled across this thread. Am guna check out the online book as it sounds very interesting (well maybe not so interesting once you start reading it!!!). But the fact that his family have written this in defence of their Father not being an abusive man. Monty has made people think and changed the lives of many horses/people. I am very glad I have read Monty's books seen demos etc. He does seem very genuine, maybe bits are elaborated but then it's a book with an audience, plus he is also a performer, hence the label 'horse whisperer'. Childhood memories can be contorted and if it was an abusive environment im sure certain memories would be erased all together. Friends/neighbours/other family members would not be likely to know if there was domestic abuse.
