Hi, I've read two excellent books recently about people who haven't owned horses or been able to ride, but have jumped in at the deepend. Has anybody else read these or know of similar? The first is called 'Fox in the cupboard' by Jane Schilling, who takes up riding with the aim of joining a hunt before the ban. I really enjoyed this, it's beautifully written and her riding achievements were astounding. The other book was called 'In the pink' by Molly Watson, who was a city girl who decided to pack in the rat race and go to learn to ride in the country. This was such an easy, fun book to read and their experiences were so funny. I think after reading this I decided to go ahead and get a horse share. I'd love to read more books like these! Paul

Hi there, horseyMan...Loved your recommendations but hadn't some across these books before. They sound like real gems and of course, there are so many people who come to horses with all the enthusiasm in the world but no previous experience....and there is such a lot to learn. They probably make the best learners of all...will try and get hold of one or other of these...

I've just gone on to Amazon and read reviews of 'Fox..'. Sounds better and better. Were you also inspired to take up hunting?

Reading the posts on this group is going to be my downfall!... (Amazon are the potential winners) I want to get down to reading these suggestions immediately - If only I could indulge in the time out to do so.... - I guess I will have to continue reading the few pages I crave at night in bed, but very sadly I tend to go to sleep all too quickly ...!

Do what I do, picsnicky, and have a small notebook....log date recommended, title and author...and at the end of the year see how many you actually managed to read. No place for being downhearted if your 'read' list is only a cm. long and 'to read' list is still half a mile....at least you have them in your notebook to be read one day, perhaps when convalescing from some mysterious illness that has come on due to not enough time to attend to matters in this aforementioned small private notebook!

That's an excellent idea saddleup :-) I can read for England... I don't think I need sleep, I had to stop reading as I can stay up all night if the book is good lol

Good for you, Tweek...there are world's as yet unimagined between the covers of a book.....'reeling in other lives with a book as the bait' as I once heard it described. Great antidote too to hours in the saddle!
