First, I would like to see that Race Horses are only raced when they are physically ready. That would be three years old, not two years old. They are pushed, and expelled quickly. The treatment is inhumane. As you can read, this is something I think is real abuse with horses. Even a riding horse cannot be riden until they are three years old because their platelets are not formed in their joints as yet. It's like asking a 10 year old person to run in the Olympics. I just don't get it, that this has gone on so long. I agree with PMU farms to being banned world wide, it causes cancer, makes orphin colts, and there is a synthetic alternative. This is torturing an animal. I would like to have the slaughter of horses stopped worldwide. I would like to see wild horses spayed and gelded to keep populations down, instead of hunted and auctioned to who knows who for $150. They would be good for students to learn their medical skills on in the way of spaying and gelding. These things have been bothering me for a long while. Linda S

Not all race horse trainers push their horses to the limit, most of them are pretty good and these days they have so many regulations put on them it is a lot harder to race the babies untill they are broken down. These days it costs an awful lot of money to train and race a horse so most owners/trainers are only too happy to look after their horses better. Wild horses get sick too, they have worms and other diseases that domesticated horses get and sometimes by the time they are rounded up it is too late to do anything for them to make their lives easier... I had never heard of PMU farms untill joining here, and think I need more information before I can pass judgement, although from what I have read here I don't like the sound of them... Don't get me wrong, I am not defending these practices, but I feel that sometimes the reasons for doing somethings get over shadowed by what we think is right and wrong...I don't like seeing any animal suffer for any reason...
