I am interested in getting more into Parelli, I have only read bits about it. I wondered if anyone could advise me on where to begin?! Are there any really good books or videos that you would recommend? Or what are your thoughts on it? Good or bad feedback is appreciated! Thanks |

Plodalong is the expert! I have just today spoken to a Parelli instructor whom Ponypower put me onto, & am going to meet her next week. She recommended getting a Parelli dvd from Parelli.com called "Getting started" which costs about £20 including p&p |

hi, thank you NMH for the compliment but PARELLI EXPERT? iwish, I would love to transfer all Pats knowledge into my head, and i would like to have Linda's riding ability.I like the Parelli method of training people ,and my my horse likes to play the 7 games. he likes all the liberty stuff best, EM can i reccomend a book to you its written by Pat and explains the why's and wherfor's of the games and how to start, its called Natural horse-man-ship. the dvd sounds like a good starting place, but be careful what you wish for, your horse may just turn into a thinking animal and start asking you questions and you have to be ready to answer him.You may get some stick off other people who hav'nt tried but but constantly knock the parelli programme, but i can promise you its a brilliant journey which will give you an unbelievable bond with your horse and you will learn body language, and how to raise and lower your energy levels and your horse will mirror you,he will challenge you for leadership, he will question you he will invite you to play, and he will respect you as his leader. the parelli professional will guide you in the right direction and advise you when you get stuck or unsure. It doesnt have to be expensive look on e-bay for carrot stick and string, long leadropes and halters.check out u tube and look for those who have posted their level auditions if you want to see progress,Join the savvy club for extra support and remember that you get what you pay for, the parelli dvd's are well packaged and easy to understand and you can refer to them time and time again. i hope you enjoy your journey, let us know how you go on. |

Thank you for the advice. I think I shall most definetely be purchasing the dvd and add another book to my list. I am still on Mark Rashid's book, I seem to take forever reading books!
The more I learn and hear about it, the more exciting it sounds, I don't want to be missing out anymore! |

Ha ha-is that the latest Mark Rashid? If it is it's excellent, I read it twice and it's now on it's rounds to my friends. Another book worth looking at Em which Plodalong actually recommended to me, and I've probably mentioned before is Rio Barretts 101 horsemanship exercises. Rio is Parelli trained. it's excellent: easy to understand and relates the groundwork to ridden exercises and well worth getting. |

Hey Em,
I would also recommend you paying a visit to the instructors websites...there may be one near you running clinics, which you should be able to go along to and watch. If you can stretch to it I would strongly urge you to have a one-on-one session with an instructor, you and your horse. It will get you off on the right foot...at the moment I'm trying to find out how to make my own pedestal...loads in the US :S |

Having just begun the Parelli journey! less than a week ago! I'm really impressed with the confidence it brings to the horse & the enormously sensible & sensitive horse-friendly way it's all been worked out for human & horse's mutual benefit. |
