I thought I would start this thread to see just how psychic horses really are! If you know of any stories or have any of your own you would like to share please add them. I've started things off with this spooky story.....
Newmarket racecourse is said to be haunted by the jockey Fred Archer b.1857 and shot himself aged 29. It has been recorded on numerous occasions that horses have slowed down or swerved at precisely the same spot on the track for no apparent reason. In 1949 and 1950 spectators and jockeys saw 2 such incidents and reported something white and spectral hovering over the racing horses. |

Well i have no spooky stories to tell, however if you think of how horses react when they can sense thunderstorms in the air it's all down to air pressure and atmospheric changes, and when ghosts are around the same more or less happens. (I am a geek and totally love the idea of ghosts) So yeah I totally beleive they are a bit psychic! Also the same with cats I have often been sat with my cat and he has just stared right through me and been awfully obsessed with something which I couldn't see! scary but cool!.
Also while being pregnant don't know if you experienced it everytime I cry and go mad I realise that that it was a full moon! Again the atmosphere has a huge amount to play in feelings if you are sensitive to it x I think i am a witch sometimes hehehehe |

Be good to hear your stories Bernadette.
Hey ArabiansRmad, I'm a real sucker for supernatural/ spiritual things I enjoy reading tarot cards and rune stones. I can completely relate to everything you have said, animals do have an uncanny ability to detect things we don't.
I have another story to share: Clever Hans was an Arab stallion from Russia. He was purchased by a German mathematician Wilhelm von Osten in the late 1800's. He set about teaching his pupil (the horse) arithmatics. A sum would be drawn on a chalkboard and Clever Hans would tap the answer with his hoof. He could do this even if his owner wasnt in the room and someone else asked the questions. Turned out he was reading subtle body language cues from everyone in the room. They decided this theory after a series of tests where the questioner didnt know the answer or Clever Hans couldn't see the questioner. It is said that horses can detect a humans heartbeat, so perhaps the horse was picking up the anticipation from the increased heartbeat of the person asking him the question. |

Hiya, when i was younger i used to spend most wkends with my grandparents,my uncle and aunt lived there too.he lived on a typical country road but at the end was fields and a big private estate. In the field beside his house his neighbour used to keep cattle, sheep and sometimes horses.what was unusual about the field was the only tree in it.It was only a small tree but the bark was very smooth and had strange markings which resembled knuckles. My grandad told me it was the markings of the devil, which scared the crap out of me.The funny thing was none of the animals would go near it,not even the dogs. Its still there today and the same family own the field.Always had an errie feeling when near it but never stopped me going up and touching the markings.Bernadette |

Another story my gran told me was the time my grandad was coming home from work.he used to work for premier daries delivering milk and drove a container wagon pulled by 2 heavy horses. There was an accident earlier that day when a horsebolted and threw his rider who broke his neck in the fall and died.My grandad on his way home got to the crossroads which was only about 5 mins from his house and stables. As he went to turn left the horses refused to budge,he tried to lead them but they would'nt go and started to rear.He decided to go the other way and got home an hour later. He told my gran about the horses not moving and having to go the other way.The next day he had no problems with the horses who went down the road as normal. He only found out couple of days later about the guy who was killed.A year later almost to the day his horses refused to go left at the crossroads. He believed that the spirit or ghost of the man thrown from his mount was what his horses seen or sensed and that was the only explanation he had.You have to remember that this happened in the 40's and people believed in ghosts and spirits.I think animals have a sixth sense about these things and can pick up on things we can't explain.Would'nt it have been great to be around in them times especially in the countryside.Bernadette. |

Hey Bernadette thanks for sharing your stories. Yeah it would be great to go back in time to experience when horses were used in farming/ as transport etc.
I bet you have many horse stories that have been told to you by your grandparents and also some great knowledge I expect.
Your last story reminded me of a similar story about a police horse named Ubique in World War 2. P.C Salmon was out on patrol one day, he tuned from a side road intending to join the main road when the horse refused to move. Seconds later a flying bomb came flying down in the road, exactly where the pair would have been if the horse had obeyed his rider.

Yes Em,it's a mystery as to why horses and animals in general have a knack of sensing things.Solo has sometimes refused to let kids or people from the RDA near him let alone on his back. And it was always the same reason why, they have either had an attack(epileptic, asmatic seizure) earlier that day or he senses an oncoming one.Yet Mandy, our connie has never reacted the way Solo does. And they say animals are dumb and stupid....... |

I love the stories in this thread. My husbands mare Penny was always a bold little mare but there was one place where we hacked occasionally where she would stop and refuse to go on. It took us ages to get her past. My husband thinks it was probably because there used to be a slaughterhouse for deer there, although this was never in her life time. |

These are great stories. Every time I go to bed angry or sad, I dream of horses all night. Strange, but never fails. I've been told by a psychic that my totem animal is a horse and that I'm surrounded by horse spiritual energy. She did explain to me that a totem animal is an animal that stays with you spiritually throughout your life to protect you. And usually when I wake up in the morning, I feel refreshed and have forgotten why I was so upset. |
