Hi I've used rope halters and a Dr Cook bitless bridle. In the US they are thinking of allowing crossunder bitless bridles in dressage competitions- would a Dr Cook be one of these. And has anyone heard of a 'lightrider' bridle?

I have just begun riding in a dr cooks bitless and so far so good, worked in the school first then out and about down the lanes, I like the headhug action and feel like i have full control over my boy. He has not complained about it and the head shaking and leaning that occurs when he is bitted have now ceased.

hi Flicka. im confused i thought that bitless bridles wern't allowed in dressage competitions, as dressage is about working on the bit and obviously a dr cooks hasnt got one.

My Appy prefers to go bitless and bareback. The bitless bridle I use is very similar to the Dr. Cook. I also keep all my horses "iron Free".. no shoes on this farm. They get barefoot preformance trims on a 6 to 8 week cycle. They all have great strong feet. Hopefully a pic uploaded of my daughter riding Shadow bitless, saddleless and shoeless... :)

I use a Kieffer drop noseband bridle with a KK with fab results, and a stubben drop on the other horse with a KK ultra, again fantastic results.

If you use a bit less I presume you teach your horses to neck rein too? Mine do and that is with a bit (when hacking, they also stop if you put pressure on the neck strap), however they are not exactly pulled around by the bit as they urn usining seat and leg, and I never turn or pull them with the inside rein.

I'm just starting my mare out again, what bitless bridles can you reccomend? The trainer I will be working with uses rope halters and side pulls (both of which I have had better response with than a snaffle).

I use a Dr Cook bitless bridle right now. The first one i had was pretty much just a rope halter with reins. Theres another kind on Ebay that i'd like to give a try where it's just a normal leather bridle with reins on either side of the noseband. My horse is Bitless and barefoot, i find when he has shoes on his feet crack very easily.
