Mad!! I love my girl to bits but if I can not afford to keep her then I will find another person who can, I'd put her on loan, get a sharer etc. My girl wants for nothing and is never neglected but I'm not sure she comes first, she is always considered of course. I do have a life other than my horse and sometimes she has to stay in/not get ridden/get a friend to put her to bed because I am out/busy/not well. You have a very understanding husband :O)

Mary i totally agree withy you !!! i think what you have done just shows your love & passion for horses my hubby &i would do the same if we had to. wouldnt we do the same if it was for our kids ?? these horses are our life They are part of the family & our kids understand this when on occasion they have to wait a little longer for those pair of expensive trainers, its me & the hubby that go without if we have to & yes the animals get fed 1st !!!

I am a busy person, aren't we all, but I always make sure my horse get the care she deserves and I always check to make sure that she doesn't get neglected, especially if someone else is looking after her. I had her with me on an acreage living by myself for a year with other animals, and the animals always came first before me, whether it was in the morning before I went to work or after when I came home from work. They saw me twice a day when I was working during the weekdays and even more on the weekend. They were my "family" so to speak. I was rewarded for the time and effort I spent with them by always being there to greet me at the gate didn't matter what time of day or night. It was great to come home to! Now, since it was hard for me to keep the farm that I was renting financially (my animals were always taken care of financialy by me), I have her boarded at a friend's place, but I always check on her, and if I can't get out there to see her, I always call to make sure she's being checked on. She will be with me until her end. She's been with me for 11 years and I hope many more. she is an older horse in her mid-twenties,and she has some respiratory problems so I am always concerned about her. I would have the same caring way for a younger horse as well.

My horses come first because they are totally dependent on me for everything. My daughters understand that, they have horses too. If you had to wait for someone to show up, to care for you, feed you, make sure you had clean, fresh water, and that someone was going to make you do things you might or might not want to do, you'd want to know that they care about your needs, and comforts, and wouldn't forget or neglect you, and would understand your fears, and help you learn what you need to learn to work for them, instead of getting mad because you don't get it. It's not hard to put ourselves in their shoes, and see things from their perspective.

I found myself out of work for about 5 weeks during the summer and had all the hassle and worry of wondering where the money was going to come from to pay the mortgage, bills etc. I know I'm not the only person in this position but it certainly made me think and I have to say the house would have gone before the horse. I've had horses for just over 30 years and the current one is the best one yet. They've all been brilliant but hopefully Smokey will allow me to fulfil my competition dreams before I get too old. I will fight tooth and nail to keep him. I have no other dependants, the horses have been my children.
