My horse was in very poor condition when i got him and in under a year he was in perfect condition! The way i got him to build condition was 1. Lots of exercise while working correctly to turn energy and glucose (food) into muscle. 2. I fed him 2 medium handfuls of Alfa-A oil, a scoop of pony nuts and one mug of calm & condition cubes twice a day. 3. I swapped from hay to haylage but if you can't afford haylage steam the hay as it makes it slightly more rich but less heavy so you can feed a bit more (as much as he will eat). Remember though not to let him balloon around the belly area by just overfeeding you must team it with hard work and exercise daily.

I've found Bailey's No. 1 - Cooked cereal meal and Dodson & Horrell Barley Rings to be fantastic at putting on weight. Haven't had any issues with them 'heating up' my horses either.
