I got sent this quote on Twitter: "It only takes one person to change your life - you." - Ruth Casey. How very true that is! What are you going to do to change?

Quick Confidence Tip: Change your posture/body language. If you're feeling unresourceful, MOVE! Movement helps you to "snap out of it" because you will have made mental connections between your unresourceful state and your location. Get up, move about, jump up and down! You'll break that unresourceful state and then you can put something more positive into its place.

Many of you will have heard of Rescue Remedy. Developed in the 1930's by medical doctor and homoeopath, Dr Edward Bach, Bach Flower Remedies address the emotional causes of dis-ease. As they are similar to homoeopathy, they don't have side effects or any interaction with conventional medication. Rescue Remedy is a mix of five of the 38 Bach Flower Remedies and it is suitable for any traumatic situation that needs "rescuing"! It covers panic, shock, feelings of faintness and fear. Every tack room should have a bottle. Think of all the situations that you could use it in! Bach Flower Remedies are great for animals too and I treat at least as many horses as riders with these wonderful remedies. A word of warning: Rescue Remedy is not the most appropriate mix of five remedies for any old situation. It's designed to "rescue" you from mental, emotional or physical trauma. For other circumstances, you'll need different remedies. I've even used it to take the pain out of a bee sting! See my general practice website for more info on Bach Flower Remedies.

Quick Confidence Tip: Keep your mouth moist. Stress = dry mouth, dry mouth = stress. Just suck saliva (your own - eeuw - LOL) into your mouth or if you're going to suck a sweetie, make sure it's a Polo (with a hole in the middle). No choking on chewing gum or anything like that!

Good idea about keeping your mouth moist, coz I get a dry mouth sometimes, and it is caused by worry/stress. I use polo's, I also give them to my horse if he gets a bit worried about something, it takes his mind off it.

My friend Alison was telling me about the time she and her friend took their young horses on a "pleasure" ride. The route took riders past a large free range pig farm and (surprise, surprise) their horses absolutely freaked. Alison said she and her friend were really scared but decided to laugh, joke and sing at the tops of their voices. Something in them changed and the horses responded to it. They got past the pigs all in one piece. Alison says she still doesn't know how they managed to do the variety act thing but she knows it worked! The moral of this story is - change what's going on in your head and you'll get a different result out of the horse. Christmas Carols, anyone? Caroline
