There's nothing makes my blood boil more than cases of animal cruelty, such as this latest one where a pony was set alight by a group of youths in Northern Ireland. And what gets me really wound up is the low level of punishment given to those found to be guilty, as if animal cruelty isn't as serious as a cruel attack or treatment of a person. Maybe some of you think that you can't equate an animal life, or suffering, to that of a human one but isn't a person who is cruel to animals likely to go on to be cruel to children or adults anyway? What do you think? http://tinyurl.com/3zdrlme |

How horrible! That is such an unthinkable thing to do!
Yes I agree they should be punished because otherwise people will continue to mistreat animals in similar ways.
One day my mum was driving my sister and I to school. we were just driving up our farm track, when we saw two boys and a girl in the field with our horses throwing stones at them and trying to clipa lead rope to one of their rugs! My sister and I were furious. We got out of the car and yelled at them and they ran for their lives! I know it was dangerous but I was so angry. Luckily my dad and one of the guys that work on the farm found them and took pictures. We reported it to the police and they basically just said 'Oh'. We also discovered these same people had previously thrown stones at our cows, forcing them to flee into a stream and one of them actually died. I can't believe how the police could turn a blind eye to these things. I know they have a lot on their plate but surely it's their job to keep such incidents and people under control?!
What shocks me the most after reading that article is that they stated that locals had noticed the horse looking very mal nourished and unwell tethered to the roadside for 'a number of weeks'! why didn't anyone report it sooner??!! surely if you see a horse in that state you don't just go 'oh poor thing' and move on? they also said it had been 'the talk of the town'!! how is that a topic for gossip?! it made me very angry.
sorry I know I sound like a very angry person, but I'm reall quite nice usually ;) XX |

I think that people should be punished in the same way they would when referring to hurting/abusing humans.
Just because animals can't "speak" doesn't mean they can't feel. I hate it when people tell me im a lunatic for thinking that animals think and feel.
Thats horrible Nora- what on earth made them want to do that!?
My Mum and about 20 other poeple nearly died as some idiots set a load of cows out of their field. They were all having calves at the time so the cows were furious. The cars all went into eachother from behind and as a result got hit around 7 times each.
The cows were shot by a vet, because they were all so distressed.
I just don't understand why someone would do something that ends up with the lives of animals being affected!! |

it should be nearly equal if not equal to if it was done to a human...appart from it being sick, is it not usually that murders and serial killers start with animals and then progress to people? |

I think it is ridiculous the sentences they get the maximum is 5 years in prison and a £20,000 fine, mary chipperfield earned millions over the years from being cruel to her animals and only got fined £20,000 and was banned from keeping animals, she should have gotten life in prison in my opinion. MAKE ME SO MAD, if someone hurt a animal and i was there i would be the one in prison for life for murder or inflicting serious bodily harm :\ |

In some countries, horses get an even worse deal-the story in the link about a horse in India is really upsetting :( :( But then life in these countries can be cruel to people too, especially women :( http://tinyurl.com/3uq7lo7 |

Oh my goodness, thats horrible! The horse was agitated! Of course its going to "bite and injure" people!!
The amount of pain that horse owners go through if their horse is in a bad mood is WAY more than that haha. I can't believe they'd beat it to death with sticks and stones and hang it. Thats completely wrong! :( |

There are some very sick and sadistic people in this world, and a lot of them pick on animals, because animals can't say anything to help themselves, these creature trust us to love them, they didn't want to be domesticated but as usual man has ruined the freedom of something then mis-treated it, makes me sick, a life for a life in my eyes, thank you! Whatever they do to the animal it should be done back to them. |

I feel sorry for not only the horse but the people in india... I mean what sort of person would think that it is right to kill a animal in such a way. They must be pretty screwed up, it is totally wrong, things need to be done about this sort of thing, the RSPCA do a really good job but all too often they focus on 'cruel' sports like racing when they could be putting time, money and effort into other bigger cruelty issues |
