Hi, Im 13 and in Middle School. I ride a horse named Daisy an have been riding her for 4 weeks. Daisy is owned by S.A.D.L.E.S. in umatilla Florida. Daisy loves barrels. I have only been riding for a short time and ride every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Daisy is a wonderful horse and is 10 years old. I rode for 2 months when I was 7, but I fell of on the horse I rode all the time back in Illinois, I just moved to Florida January of 2011. Anyway once I fell I stopped riding and serousily never touched a horse till August of 2011. I enjoy riding very much and have been riding in genral for a month. I have a fear of troting without a lead rope. If you have any advice for me I could use it. Thanks, Lilly |

My fear of troting is bad because all my friends, who are advanced level riders want me to get to cantering. One of my friends however, tells me this, "Do not tell yourself you cant, You can, whatever you do dont rush". She really wnats me trot but whenever I do I feel like I will fall, I really really need some advice. If you have ever delt with a problem like this please tell me. Because I need some help to trust myself and my horse. |

hi lily my daughter had a similar problem, while she could walk trot and even canter on the lead or lunge line she was terrified when it can to riding off lead or lunge she felt scared and sick in the stomach. We started by tying the lead rope around her ponies neck and having me walk beside her, once she had got some confidence with that (it all takes time dont be in to much of a hurry you will be ready when your ready)She still didnt feel very confident so we fitted a breast plate to her saddle. It crosses over at the top of her ponies neck so that if she needs to she can hold it till she is more confident. I stayed close beside her but gradually moved further and further away... She now rides all by herself walk trot and canter and actually won Grand Champion in the under tens this year!!! Take your time and make sure your friends know that as much as you want to be riding with them your not confident enough so its not safe yet!! Maybe they could help you a little and do some walking beside you!! be sure to talk as this will help you relax, if you just sit up there you are only going to think about the lead :) Hope to hear your riding confidently soon |
