Can anyone give me tips on making the best of the warm up ring. I never find my mare goes very well in company, there's never much room and at unafilliated shows it seems really chaotic. I would love to know how other people get on and how they deal with it. Thanks. |

the warm up is often quite chaotic.. Specially if the ponyriders are competing the same classes, in Norway at least, that often is chaotic. Sometimes i warm up outside the warm-up arena, but thats only if there is several arenas.. Just think of yourself while warming up, keep your eyes open so you dont crash into someine, but think of yourself and the horse, its like a normal training, ask for things and get respons. Jumping is the same way, i often just jump 3-4 times before i go into the ring, and just walking calmly around for some minutes to calm down before I enter the arena. |

always try to keep them confident, you dont need to jump over a mountain in the warm up ring..Also i always trot into a very small cross as the first jump.. Dont jump big crosses on a young horse, they are alright to sharpen up an older horse but can scare younger horses because they have difficulty judging the height.. |

i usually just do lots of transitions and try to forget about everyone else but my horse, but obviously keep out of the way of others. i will usually just jump a cross pole an upright (just below class height) and a spread (also just below class height) and if i get one of them wrong il jump it again. i think its best to concentrate on what your horse needs then and ther rather than having a set plan, if he gets a bit lazy do a few transitions and crosspoles, if hes hyper trot him calmly around the arena and maybe pop a small jump etc |

I go Hargatte competing and the warm up arena their is not very big. Jessie (my horse) will buck if another horse comes anywhere near the back of her so im normally in risk of falling of. I once went over a jump and crashed into a 16.2hh horse! which was quite scary! x |
