I think you can get lookie likie Parelli stuff and it's much cheaper. And there are a few good trainers around who use a mix of natural horsemanship techniques that might be more accessible. What part of the country are you in?

I got all my parelli gear off ebay, a company called equi-knots (or something like that) are at least half the price of parelli. Or if you type in malanie watson on the internet, her website has a shop on it (intelligent horsemanship) and she does well priced natural horsemanship kit. If you live anywhere near her too she does fantastic lessons, I had her down for my first ever ground session with Jess and she really turned everything around for me :) I think mel is doing her own tv programme on horse and country soon, watch out for her she might be able to give you some really good tips.

Hi there is a really easy and so so cheap! way to learn all parelli for £3.00! yes its true! there is a book called 101 horsemanship games available of e-bay and amazon for £3.00. the writer an english woman who studied with Pat Parelli and now does it all herself! listed is everysingle thing Parelli does and how do it and a trouble shooting guide for exersizes to help specific problems fantastic book! and written in an easy explanitory and informative way far far easier to under stand than pats rambling!! u can learn the whole programme right through to riding with finesse no bridle etc if you want to! there you go. and you can buy cheap versions of the ropes and carrot sticks and sure some are better than other but thats the gamble. I prefer my carrot stick to the proper parelli one cus mine a bit lighter bonus for me. Hope that helps cus other wise its an exspensive programme to follow!

Ha ha-good one HUNNYMUNSTA-I've got that book and it's really good. Also of course there are lots of good vids on youtube-maybe we could start a thread and put together a good collection.. Also did you see the thread about the Parelli Reality TV series on SKY TV? And look at training video thread in Horse Training Group as there are some great ones there-I think there's also one from the woman who wrote the book 101 horsemanship games :)

hi guys, alot of 'NH'teachers out there are quite expensive, but that is because they are effective(or should be, alot of people out there who are not so effective), and the time and dedication it takes to hone their craft should be refelected in the price, however, your best teacher is your horse. If you can get past all the equipment and DVDs and concentrate on the whole concept behind the 'brand' movement, you will be able to go along way without having to spend a fortune. I have only ever had 3/4 paid for lessons years ago now, which showed me how to listen, the rest of my skill and knowledge has come from horses.
You tube is also a great tool to use. There are 100's of vids on there posted by people from all over the world and you can pick up loads of tips and hints and inspirational idea's for free.
P Parelli, M Roberts, C Anderson...they are all just human beings, they honed there craft through all the attributes I listed above, then packaged what they know and sold it to the masses, they weren born being able to do any of it. What they are able to do is not beyond anyone, it just depends on the level of time and commitment and passion you have/are willing to put in to get there.
The way to good horsemanship comes from time, patience, dedication and passion, not money.xxx
