i have a 7 yr old Arab, and we have had some bad experiences with jumping which make us both nervous, i want to teach him to jump but am unsure where to begin, he goes to pony club and does trot poles but it doesn't go any further than that. please help me if you can. thanks

i would literally work on trot and canter poles and then build them into tiny jumps and gradually as you both get more confident you can make them bigger. things like placings poles before a fence can be helpful, keep it fun and interesting and stay as relaxed as you can :)

yeah you can lunge him over some fences that will help his confidence and not yours but yeah just do lots of bits and pieces to keep it fun!

I would say free school rather than lunge over jumps as if you pull round after a jump he could be uneven and fall in knocking your horses confidence again. I would work over raised trotting poles too to get your horse used to poles off ground.
