to use two lines imagine you have them attached like you would for long lining and one line will come from the bit straight to your hand (as normal) and the other will be attached to the other bit ring and will come around and behind the horse and back to the other hand so you have a triangle of rope and you can use the second rope to ask the horse to bring his hind quarters beneath him and push him round the pen rather than chase, it also makes changing rein easier because you can turn using the bit and you don't have to swap the line over.
