hi rolymo, my pony wont drop either.! my vet recomended baby soap, lather up in warm water on jay cloth, put on your marigolds & work your way up.! make sure your pony dosnt kick you, work the lather up inside the sheath as far as your pony will let you, do a couple of times & then do the same with clean water a couple of times, I still need to do magics every 2-3 weeks in the summer, good luck.!

generally they drop wen they are relaxed, if you try grooming and getting your pony comfortable with you brushing and working around tht area. also my friends think im disgusting for doing this...but if im grooming/mucking out/tacking up etc and my horse "hangs loose" i will pick bits of dirt off it while its out...kinda keeps it clean.

My boys like a sheath cleaning session, well it's more a willie picking session, stretch the neck out, wiggle the top lip, they love it, and will pop it out. They are not so keen on me holding the end and gentally using a soft towel to remove the crispy bits, but no stinky willies for my boys. I always make sure any geldings that come to me except cleaning time. I'm not a horse perv, just don't like the thought of a cheesy crusty willie, can't be nice for them! I start by rubbing the belly and moving back to the sheath area and rub up between their legs when they first arrive with me, so they accept being touched in that area. Stand close so if they do lift a leg step in to the start of the leg lift. If you are going to use water makes sure it's warm, and a bar of saddle soap or baby soap is what I use if I do the wet option if you use a sponge use a baby one as they are nice and soft.

my gelding needs doing every few weeks as he smells.! vet said that some horses can be left alone but if I left mine it cauld lead to infection, this happened to a gelding of mine a few years ago & he was really ill as the infection travelled upwards, he had to have injections every day for a week & his sheath swelled up so there is no way I would let that to magic, stallions in the wild are mateing so this stops the muck building up.
