My horse has the same problem. We have a great bond. My gelding picked me as a weanling and only liked me, he is 7 now. I started jumping him about a foot as a late 4 year old. He jumped fine other than a little hesitant until he learned he could refuse. I let someone else ride him, he refused with her, and ever since he will refuse the first time I take him to any new jump. But I just back him up and start over and he is fine the next time doesn't even over jump. He is still only jumping a foot, I figure he needs to learn to be consistent over that before he can go bigger. When I took cross country lessons on my mare, she was the greenest but the boldest in our group. On the scarier jumps the trainer always had us jump first and everyone else follow. It seemed to work well. If I had a bigger arena and more skilled jumpers at our barn I would definitely try that. Unfortunately the people who jump here are a bit scary over fences as it is a western barn. My gelding is a Western Pleasure horse, when I get bored of WP he has to jump and do Dressage. At least he is well rounded.

lol, try join up, if u want info, ask me, i can see he is afraid of it, he will get what he wants if he wants to, but he tries to hide his fear as hes a proud horse, so just ask me if u want 2 know the techniques for join up

Lol i join up all the time and it does make your hoorse trust you but try walking him over the slightly more strange but small jumps first without asking for a jump, see it as training to jump all over again, also try lungeing over the jumps (i don't know if any of this has been said by the way lol) and try getting another horse and rider to lead over the jumps, hope this helps.

yeah, coz after join up, the horse will follow u, so by stepping over a jump and walking a little away, he should follow, then running over the jump he will trot behind you and jump it, then get on him and see what he thinks of the jump, another thing is when u r riding him, walk him up to the jump and let him examine it, so he knows what it is, that should make him easier to jump
