I thought it would be good to discuss our trainers for jumping. Have you got a good one? Why do you like them? What are the most important things they have taught you. Have you had trainers that you couldn't stand! And I would be particularly grateful for any recommendations for trainers in the Essex area as my friend trains me and she always seems to be busy at the moment-aghhh!!

I love a trainer who doesn't mess about and gets to the point, shouting at me is how I change my ways! I don't have a jumping trainer at the moment only a dressage one, although do have the odd clinic with a good one:) he is great for shouting sense into me and pointing out my faults immediately and requests an improvement straight away and to become aware of it, he also asks me what I think I did wrong which also helps me be more aware.

i train with Philip Spivey and have done on and off for a few years now. he's very good and making you think about exactly what your doing.. what effect that has on you and the horse and of course then correcting it. he's really in depth and thorough and cares about it - not just someone who wants your money! he's patient but to the point he's near ipswich if thats any use to you!

well my uncle does a great job, hes one of those ones that barks orders at you and you follow! its great cos he will push you to do your best. his wife Jacqui is great too she picks on the little things and ensures your position, contact, seat etc is perfect. and a family friend, Billy Irwin will train me for jumping every now and then and he is fantastic he really helped my jumping technique and gave me and charlie a real confidence boost, made me realise that my little horse sure can jump.

My trainer is Jill Holt. She is the best instructor I've ever had!! She trusts me and challenges me, I used to be terrified of a 1ft5 jump because of my first fall but she earned my trust and now I'm riding some of the most misbehaving horses at around my level and jumpin them over 3ft1!!! She is a level 5 judge in dressage and competes herself! she has a website and will hapily train anyone! I don't know what I would do without her! She is also a BHSII instructor!

Well not that I'm in europe but my trainer at the moment is a fellow called Barry Munt, He isn't very well known but he is an amazing rider who has competed internationally and trained some amazing horses. He was short listed to compete at the olympics but unfortunately his horse went lame and then the owners sold the horse before the next olympics :(.. I like him because he completely understands my horse and me.. and he isn't one for yelling but he always gets me to work hard. and he is very thoughtful if i am nervous about a course he will walk it with me. He helps me warm up before i compete.. I like him..
