Hi, can i ask advise on using the white tape electric fence wen you have a new foal???what are your thoughts ? I have just notice that my horse is ready to drop any time in the next few weeks - BIG surprise !! she did get out in a field last year with a stallion and i thought i had caught her in time for anything to come off it !! she has all the signs now of been a mummy !! but she cant have any other fence as she just barges through and walks off with not a care in the world !! i have found she is not bothered about the fence and she gets stunk everytime when she goes near it she just moves away. My other horse can have it there and not on cos she that scared of white tape but not with minnie. Can i still use it when the new foal comes ?

Hi, I have an 8 month old, who has been used to electric fences for some time now - since she was about 2 months. She is less bothered than her mum and has run through it, but it doesn't seem to faze her. I just put it back up and they go back to staying the right side of it for a few days, until she runs through it again. I will be interested to hear others comments.

Yonina & fi919 are right. My first foal walked straight into the hot tape at 10 hours old it zapped him 3 times, then he figured it out - stay away from that white stuff!! lol Keep an eye on them for the first few hours just on the off-chance they panic into rather than away from it. If they do this and become tangled be ready quickly switch off the power or cut the tape to free them. They'll go straight back to mum, and I doubt they'll do it again either. Don't panic. They're super inquisitive and get into all sorts of pickles, but they learn very quickly too - just another part of discovering the universe.:)
