Hey All, My horse has just come back into work and has very little muscle around his back - in fact anywhere! I am working him long and low at the moment in walk and trot. Hacking him up and down hills etc. Is there anything else i can do to aid his muscle growth around his back, bum & Shoulders? Thanks! Lucinda

My horse had a back operation so i was in a similar situation (well i am) I have been trotting up hill as much as i can because he really works himself. Also lunging with side reins is a great idea. Also do "carrot stretches" twice a day and bowing is a really good way to stretch a horses back muscles so teach him with a carrot by asking him to put one leg forward slightly and bring the carrot down between his forelegs so his head comes back and to the ground before he can get the carrot.
